Listen to FredScanner from Your PC

Looking for a free desktop scanner? This is a great way to monitor the activity in Frederick, MD.
It will even display the channel (Police, Sheriff, Fire, etc) that the transmissions are coming in on.

This is a bit long, but worth it. If you are not comfortable installing software, ask someone that is. We do not offer PC support.

Follow these steps:
  • Download Winamp Standard from here:
  • Double-click/Run the installer that you just downloaded
  • On the “Welcome to the Winamp installer” page, click “Next”
  • On the “License Agreement” page, click “I Agree”
  • On the “Choose Install Location” page, click “Next”
  • On the “Choose Components” page, deselect “Winamp Agent” and click “Next”
  • On the “Choose Start Options” page, deselect “Create Quick Launch Icon” and click “Next”
  • ***Important*** On the “Install Hotspot Shield” page, select “I do not accept” and click “Install” (this will avoid installing unneeded software)
  • After Winamp installs, click “Finish” Winamp should start (if not, then start it).
  • Under “Choose Skin” select “Winamp Modern” and click “Next”
  • On the “File Associations” page, deselect “Audio Files”,”Playlist Files” and “Video Files”, click “Next”
  • On the “Choose Online Services” page, deselect all Featured Services and click “Next”
  • On the “User Feedback” page, just click “Finish”
  • Winamp will finally open. You will see three panes open. Close (click the “x” in the upper right corner) the panes called “Playlist Editor” (upper right pane) and “Media Library” (bottom pane).
  • You should only see the “Winamp” pane, click “Options” and then “Preferences”
  • In the left pane, scroll down to and highlight “Input” (under “Plug-ins")
  • In the right pane, highlight “Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder v4.98” and click “Configure”
  • Deselect “Include stream name in title” and click “OK”
  • “Close” Winamp Preferences
  • Close/Exit Winamp

At this point you should have an icon on your desktop that looks like this:

  • Right-click on this icon and choose “Properties”
  • In the “Target” field add a space and this to the end of whats already there: "" (Include the quotes) The line should look like this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Winamp\winamp.exe" ""
  • Click “Ok”
  • Right-click on the icon again and choose “Rename” then type "FredScanner" and press -enter-

Phew! Your done! Double-click your new FredScanner icon and Enjoy…
